Gifts of the Moon selection interface.

Selene offers Gifts of the Moon Hexes—powerful abilities that can be activated once their Magick cost has been fulfilled by spending Magick. Each night, Selene will offer three Hexes, of which only one may be chosen.

Any additional Selene rewards received afterward contribute to the Path of Stars Path of Stars—a skill tree tied to the selected Hex that enhances and modifies its capabilities. This system serves as the spiritual successor to Calls from Hades.

Path of Stars Path of Stars comes in different variations:

  • The regular Path of Stars provides 3 upgrades.
  • The Faint Path of Stars, found in the Fields of Mourning, provides 1 upgrade.
  • The Gleaming Path of Stars, found in Tartarus, The Summit, and through Nemesis' Fair Trade, provides 5 upgrades.

Each Hex in the Gifts of the Moon selection is paired with a corresponding Moonglow, which determines the starting number of upgrades for the Path of Stars. The specific Moonglow changes with each night.

  • Full Moonglow - This Hex has the most potential; it gains +2 upgrades from your next Path of Stars.
  • Half Moonglow - This Hex has greater potential; it gains +1 upgrade from your next Path of Stars.
  • Crescent Moonglow - This Hex has no special bonuses; the sheer might of the Moon shall have to suffice.

Sky Fall, from Aspect of Selene, does not interact with the Moonglow system and receives no bonuses.

Additionally, Selene's Moon Beam contribute upgrades to the Path of Stars by +3/+4/+5/+7 upgrades from your next Path of Stars.

After selecting a Hex, you’ll receive one of four possible layouts of the Path of Stars, which display your Hex’s available upgrades and the number of upgrades you currently possess. These layouts and their node placements are randomized each night, but can be previewed in advance by inspecting the Boon Info and selecting the Hex.

Additional Notes[]

Currently Bugged:

  • Normally, Gifts of the Moon allows you to accept only one Hex per night. However, it is currently possible to accept two Gifts of the Moon in a night through either HermesTravel Deal in the Shrine of Hermes or NemesisFair Trade, allowing Melinoë to possess two Hexes simultaneously.
    • Path of Stars will only apply its upgrade effects to the second Hex; the first Hex receives no benefit, even if the second Hex has been fully upgraded.
    • The Magick usage counter also only applies to the second Hex. When casting, the second Hex takes priority; once it is activated, the first Hex can then be cast without consuming Magick, effectively allowing a "free" second cast.
  • Path of Stars Path of Stars may still be offered in Asphodel, but you may leave the region before upgrading your Hex, making it possible to miss the upgrade opportunity.
  • The Path of Stars layout is not tied to the run’s random seed, meaning it can be manipulated without requiring the Acceptance of Another Fate Incantation. By equipping the Moon Beam keepsake—which prioritizes Selene’s appearance—players can restart the run if the current layout is unfavorable, effectively rerolling for a more desirable configuration.

Twilight Curse[]

Your Hex launches a seeking projectile that inflicts Morph on up to 5 susceptible foes.

Notes: Morph: Curse: Afflicted foes turn into harmless critters. Lasts 4 Sec.

  • Twilight Curse does not affect any Guardian, as well as certain Wardens.
  • Although Morph is classified as a Status Curse, Selene is not considered an Olympian god, making Morph incompatible with Origination.
  • The projectile from Twilight Curse lasts 1 second and resets its duration each time it targets a new foe, up to a maximum of 5 foes. However, it may disappear prematurely if it collides with an impassable wall.

  • The Sustenance upgrade functions as an instant-kill effect if the afflicted foe is successfully turned into a healing item and is collected; otherwise, they revert to their normal form after the curse duration ends.
    • The encounter will remain active until the item is collected.
    • Be cautious that foes with post-defeat explosion (e.g., Hippo, Tempus) will still trigger their effect after the item is collected.
  • The Sustenance upgrade is affected by Hermes' Success Rate, increasing the chance to 39%/42%/45%/48%.

Lunar Ray[]

Your Hex fires a beam that deals up to 800 damage over 2 Sec.

Notes:

  • Lunar Ray's firing animation can be canceled by dashing; however, the Hex will still count as used, and its Magick counter will reset.
    • The Prominence upgrade mitigates this drawback, as the beam will fire automatically.
  • If a player is caught in a temporary time bubble from Tempus or by enemies with the Stopper Perk from Vow of Fangs, Lunar Ray will not be interrupted.

The Disintegration upgrade allows your Hex to inherit the secondary effects of your Attack Boon, excluding its bonus percentage damage. However, Flutter Strike and Nova Strike are exceptions, as they retain their damage bonus.

  • Flutter Strike: Lunay Ray deals more damage to nearby foes.
  • Nova Strike: Increases the size and damage of Lunar Ray.
  • Ice Strike: Causes Lunar Ray inflicts Freeze.
  • Volcanic Strike: Causes Lunar Ray to create a blast, its cooldown is shared with Volcanic Strike.
    • Currently Bugged: Blast triggers only once per use of Lunar Ray.
  • Sworn Strike: Causes Lunar Ray inflicts Hitch.
  • Flame Strike: Causes Lunar Ray to inflict Scorch.
  • Wave Strike: Causes Lunar Ray to hit foes with a splash that knock other foes away.
    • Currently Bugged: Splash only deals 1 hit per foe.

Overflow
Your Hex also deals 50 damage every 0.2 Sec. in an area around you.
Bright The Overflow upgrade is stationary and unaffected by the Prominence upgrade—Melinoë can move freely after casting, but the Overflow effect remains fixed at the Hex’s original position.
Prominence
Your Hex continually aims and fires on its own from wherever you use it.

  • The Hex charging animation plays only when you use Lunar Ray for the first time in each encounter. For subsequent uses, the beam will fire automatically without replaying the animation.
  • Once the targeted enemy is slain, the beam will gradually seek out a new enemy.
Trinity
Your Hex fires 3 beams in a fan pattern.

Sublime
  • When upgraded with Trinity, each Lunar Ray beam gains its own individual hitbox and maintains full damage output, tripling the damage and the number of hits. This makes it particularly effective against large enemies or any foes at point-blank range.
    • The increased number of hits from the Trinity upgrade synergize with the Disintegration upgrade, benefiting from the Attack boon with stacking effects, especially Scorch.
  • The Prominence upgrade causes the beams to gradually merge into a single, powerful beam, making it easier to land hits.
  • When using Aim Assist, Lunar Ray with the Trinity upgrade will prioritize the middle beam. As a result, auto-aim will not trigger if no enemy is within range of the center, even if enemies are present in the left or right path.

Wolf Howl[]

Your Hex makes you rise up then crash down in the target area for 200 damage.

Notes: During the Hex charging and aiming animation, you are vulnerable to damage. However, you take no damage while rising up and stomping.

Notes:

  • The enemy affected by Night Bloom remains targetable, making them susceptible to status curses. This can enhance your gameplay, particularly with Hitch and Wounds.
  • The enemy affected by Night Bloom receives 80% damage reduction, reducing the risk of accidental kills and allowing for more effective use during each encounter.
  • The enemy affected by Night Bloom also comes under the effects of Oath of the Unseen before their demise, specifically Vow of Pain, Vow of Grit, Vow of Wards, and Vow of Frenzy, which significantly amplify their abilities. These enhancements to damage and speed synergize with the Devotion and Rigor upgrades.
  • Night Bloom can be used alongside Sun Worshiper, allowing both to function simultaneously.
  • The enemy affected by Night Bloom counteracts with those inflicted with the Charmed status, as Charmed enemies are still considered foes.

Dark Side[]

Your Hex turns you into an Impervious living nightmare with her own abilities for 5 Sec.

Notes: Melinoë's appearance and moveset significantly change for its entire duration.

  • Attack: Fires a single Dark Flame. Holding the attack button releases a rapid wave of flames. Each hit deals 30 damage.
  • Special: Summons an expanding magic circle that later retracts, resembling Hecate's Crossed Flame. Deals 100 damage up to 7 times, although only large enemies and certain Guardians can take full damage. Average-sized foes are typically hit 2 to 4 times. The hits occur as follows:
    • A hit when the circle begins expanding.
    • A hit when the circle reaches mid-expansion.
    • A hit when the circle fully expanded.
    • A hit when the circle is mid-retraction.
    • Three hits around the player when the circle expires. (These have a smaller hitbox compared to the initial hit and require precise positioning or a large enemy to connect fully.)
