~ Medea |
Medea is a witch from Colchis who married the famous Greek hero, Jason. After ten years of marriage, Jason annulled his marriage to her and chose instead to wed the daughter of the King of Corinth. As vengeance, Medea killed Jason's new bride and her own sons by him, ensuring that he would have no heir.
Medea appears in Hades II and offers her Nightly Curses to Melinoë in her fight against Chronos. She can be encountered in the City of Ephyra.
Characteristics and Personality[]
Medea is an eccentric, cunning and sadistic dark witch who conjures spells to cause harm, inflicting revenge against those who retaliate against Melinoë. She is passionate about making potions with strange effects, even testing them herself. Medea's concoctions make even Melinoë hesitate, as does Medea's constant delight in poisonous air and the abundant bones she collects, eagerly awaiting what will happen.
Medea prefers to work alone and excels at it. She is very confident, feared, especially when contrasted with the friendlier temperament of her aunt Circe. But, in reality, she is on Hecate's side, acting as her eyes and supporting the gods against Chronos. However, she is still ultimately a mercenary and has a great amount of grudges - she has a long-standing agreement with Polyphemus and will occasionally put fulfilling her side of the bargain with him over Melinoë's welfare, even joining forces with him on occasion against her.
Physical description[]
Medea is depicted as a striking-looking woman. Her eyes are bright green, with one covered by her long, straight black hair, and her lips are vivid red. She has very pale skin.
She adorns a moon shaped headband with green tassels, further decorated with small moons. She wears a black dress with green details and silver moons on top, forming a small boob window and enclosing her neck. She also has small silver pauldrons on her shoulders and spiked armbands and wristbands, with the armbands' spikes being noticeably bigger. She has a black shawl hanging loose her right arm. Medea holds a bloody knife in her left hand and is seen using her magic to make a chalice float with her other hand; this chalice has some red magic coming out of it.
Background[]
Medea is the daughter of Aeëtes and Idyia, and from her father's side a descendant of Helios and niece of Circe. Her aunt taught her some of the magic she now possesses, and despite their differences, they both care for one another.
She helped Jason back in the day, during his Argonauts adventures, and eventually married him, but was later betrayed and in a rage, killed their children and left him. Now she resents others as a result of her past.
Medea occasionally helped Hecate raise Melinoë when the Titan Goddess came to be in such a predicament and has vowed to stand guard at the City of Ephyra during their plight with Chronos. Here, she continues her research, using the enemies of the region for her own deeds.
Hades II[]
Melinoë can come across Medea as she walks through the City of Ephyra. The witch will gladly lend some of her Nightly Curses to aid the princess in her climb. She may occasionally appear in the Crossroads as well.
Medea also appears and join forces with Polyphemus in the Guardian boss fight of Ephyra if Melinoe chooses to set the Vow of Rivals to Tier 1.

Trivia[]
- Other documented parentages of Medea have her and Circe as daughters of Hecate and Aeëtes.
- Medea was abandoned by Jason in Corinth, otherwise known as Ephyra. This is likely why she is the character found in this region.
- Circe and Medea seemingly represent opposite aspects of magic - Medea represents modern witchcraft, being proficient in "scientific" parts (constantly mentioning her research) and forbidden crafts, sorcery, necromancy, curses, etc. This is also alluded to in her design, as her primary tools are a sacrificial knife and blood-filled cup. Medea also might refer to "black" magic, with her musical theme being ominous and sinister, and having some heavy metal vibes, while also being the same musical theme as Circe's, but with a different mood.
