It's really you. Before you say anything, I know I'm not supposed to be here, but I spotted this ship and had to drop in for a closer look. And now I'm going to take off! So let's pretend this never happened, hey?
~ Icarus

Icarus is the son of the great inventor Daedalus. While both were imprisoned in Crete, Daedalus created a pair of wings and gave them to Icarus. Drunk on the freedom that he'd received, Icarus flew too close to the sun, which made the wax that held the wings in place melt and let him fall to his death.

He appears in Hades II and offers his Inventions to Melinoë in her fight against Chronos. He can be encountered on the Rift of Thessaly and Mount Olympus.

Characteristics and Personality[]

Icarus is a curious and humbled young soul who aspires to be just as great an inventor as his father. The events of his death taught him a great deal of humility and caution, but he will still fly out of the Underworld if he feels that the living need help. Before his death, he was an impatient, stubborn, and reckless young boy, and it was this arrogance that led him to his downfall, along with his dreams, transforming into a shadow of what he once was.

He will provide Melinoë with his latest inventions on her journey as he found purpose in helping her. Icarus is very shy, and his interactions are overly friendly with Melinoë, calling her Meli". Despite his shy and reserved nature, he doesn't let his modesty fade, even with all the help he's offering. When he makes an obstinately appearance in from the sky, he launches explosives everywhere, combating Melinoë's enemies in a quite flashy way if he wants to. However internally, Icarus has always felt that everything he does ends in disaster and feels guilty for the loss of Melinoë's arm, despite Melinoë not blaming him for the incident.

Nevertheless, he still wishes to be helpful and will confront his fears by creating inventions to aid in Melinoë's journey, becoming an invaluable ally and friend for the princess.

Physical Description[]

Despite being a shade, Icarus still maintains the appearance of a human boy when he was alive, thanks to Melinoë. He is very pale, thin, with dark circles giving him a sickly appearance, and his eyes are golden caramel. His hair is short and brown.

Hades II[]

Before the game's events, Icarus lived in the Crossroads where he met Melinoë and became friends. At one point, Icarus asked Melinoë if she could make him whole again. Melinoë tried to with an incantation using Hecate's cauldron but the endeavor ended in failure which cost Melinoë her left arm. Icarus felt guilty for the accident and left the Crossroads. During his time away, he managed to build his own pair of wings that he uses to fight the armies of Chronos and help the living on the surface.

During the game's events, Icarus appears on the Rift of Thessaly and lends Melinoë some of his own inventions. In a conversation with Melinoë, Icarus reveals that his father has retired and that he is the one that has been dropping the Daedalus Hammers that Melinoë finds.

Book of Shadows Entry[]

'Flight is somehow symbolic of freedom; the ability to go where one pleases, without constraint! Nonsense, of course. Flight can be very taxing. Or in some cases, worse. This one is not alone in living, or rather existing, in his father's shadow. Not even he can fly away from that.'

Trivia[]

  • Icarus calls MelinoëMeli”, a diminutive of her name which means “honey” in Greek.
  • His tale had been previously mentioned during placeholder end run dialogues of the Early Access of Hades.
