Disambig This article is about the first boss of the game as a whole. For other information on Megaera, see Megaera. For other information on Alecto, see Alecto. For other information on Tisiphone, see Tisiphone.

The Furies (sometimes referred to as the Erinyes) are the boss encounter for Tartarus, as well as the first boss encountered in every run of Hades. They are always encountered at Chamber 14, the final Chamber of Tartarus. Initially when encountered, only Megaera will oppose Zagreus. After enough runs have been attempted, eventually her sisters, Alecto and Tisiphone, will occasionally appear in her place, leading to more varied and different fights.

Once the Extreme Measures condition of Pact of Punishment has been unlocked, it can be used to allow the Furies to fight together, with one of them serving as the primary boss, and one or both of the other two acting as "support sisters" pelting Zagreus with additional attacks.

Combat[]

Megaera[]

Megaera is fought in her own unique chamber. The chamber is a large rectangular shaped room lined with pillars on the edges, with Spike Traps in between the pillars. Her chamber contains more pillars than the other Fury boss fight chambers.

Megaera has four abilities she will use throughout the fight. Two of them - her Lunge and Whip Whirl attacks - she will always begin the fight with access to. Volley and Flame become available after she has been reduced to 75% max HP and 50% max HP; which one becomes available first is random.

  • Lunge: Megaera pauses briefly and dashes towards Zagreus, dealing 13 damage on impact.
  • Whip Whirl: Megaera attempts to get close to Zagreus and slashes her whip around her, dealing 13 damage in an area.
  • Volley: Megaera fires a volley of rapid shots towards Zagreus, dealing 4 damage on impact.
  • Flame: Megaera repeatedly summons a random pattern of circles around Zagreus's current position, dealing 8 damage if he is stood in them when they activate. Sometimes these patterns do not cover Zagreus's current position in an attempt to trick him into dodging into the circles.

Megaera also summons reinforcements in the form of Thugs and Witches during the fight, beginning after being reduced 75% max HP. The amount of summons spawned will increase after being reduced to 50% max HP, and then again at 25% max HP. When reduced to each of those stages, she will briefly become invulnerable, and perform a short summoning animation. She will not attack Zagreus during these transitions.

Extreme Measures[]

When using Extreme Measures Level 1 from the Pact of Punishment, Megaera has a chance to appear as a support sister if Alecto or Tisiphone is the main sister of the fight. As a support sister, she will use 2 modified attacks from her abilities to assist the main fury in the fight. As a support sister, she cannot be damaged, and has no effect on the main fury's health.

  • Support Flame: Megaera summons a large flame circle near Zagreus' current position, dealing 8 damage when it activates if he is inside it.
  • Support Volley: Megaera summons a flame pillar which fires a volley of rapid shots around the arena, dealing 4 damage on impact. This ability is only able to be used if the main fury is under 50% max HP.

Alecto[]

Alecto is fought in her own unique chamber. The chamber is a large square with 4 pillars in the middle of the room, and Spike Traps in the center as well as around the edges of the arena. Her chamber contains more traps than the other Fury boss fight chambers.

Alecto has five abilities she will use throughout the fight. Three of them - her Lunge attack, Whip Arc attack, and Build Rage - she will always begin the fight with access to. Lightning Chase will become available first at 75% max HP, and then Whip Shot at 50% max HP.

  • Lunge: Alecto pauses briefly and dashes towards Zagreus, dealing damage on impact.
  • Whip Arc: Alecto attacks in a broad arc in front of her.
  • Build Rage: Alecto stops moving and begins rapidly increasing her Rage meter; during this period, she releases volleys in all directions for 3 seconds and is disrupted if attacked.
  • Lightning Chase: Alecto repeatedly summons a circle on Zagreus's current position, dealing damage if he stands in one when they activate. During this time she will rapidly spin and follow Zagreus' movements, opening herself to attacks.
  • Whip Shot: Alecto summons a whirling formation of spikes that function similarly to Blade Rifts. They bounce off of terrain and persist for a period of time before fading away, potentially allowing multiple to occupy the battlefield. If they strike Zagreus, they do 7 damage a hit, and can hit Zagreus repeatedly in quick bursts.

Alecto also summons Louts as reinforcements during the fight, though she summons considerably fewer than Megaera does. At most, only 1 or 2 Louts will be in the arena at a time.

Alecto has a Rage meter that fills during the fight, either through receiving damage or from her Build Rage ability. After the Rage meter is filled, Alecto becomes invulnerable for a very brief duration. She then rapidly increases her attack/movement speed and briefly unlocks all of her abilities, regardless of her current health. Her Lunge and Whip Arc attacks release volleys of projectiles, her Lightning Chase receives an increase to the rate of summons, and her Whip Shots become larger.

When Alecto is reduced to 75% max HP, she becomes briefly invulnerable and unlocks her Lightning Chase ability. When reduced to 50% max HP, she becomes briefly invulnerable and unlocks her Whip Shot ability. When reduced to 25% max HP, she becomes briefly invulnerable and enters "Perma-Rage" which will immediately fill her Rage Meter and prevent it from decreasing for the rest of the fight (putting her into her enraged state until she dies). She also loses access to her Build Rage ability.

Extreme Measures[]

When using Extreme Measures Level 1 from the Pact of Punishment, Alecto has a chance to appear as a support sister if Megaera or Tisiphone is the main sister of the fight. As a support sister, she will use 2 modified attacks from her abilities to assist the main fury in the fight. As a support sister, she cannot be damaged, and has no effect on the main fury's health.

  • Support Whip Shot: Alecto summons a Whip Shot which acts the same as it does in her fight, bouncing off walls and doing 7 damage a hit to Zagreus.
  • Support Lightning Chase: Alecto repeatedly summons a circle on Zagreus' current position, dealing damage if he stands in one when it activates. This ability is only able to be used if the main fury is under 50% max HP.

Tisiphone[]

Tisiphone is fought in her own unique chamber. The chamber is (initially) a large square room with no pillars or traps in it, unlike her sisters' chambers.

Tisiphone has four abilities she will use throughout the fight. Two of them - her Whip attacks - she will always begin the fight with access to. Lightning and Slow Beam become available after she has been reduced to 67% max HP and 33% max HP; which one becomes available first is random.

  • Whip Lasso: Tisiphone lashes out at Zagreus, stunning him if hit, and then lunges toward his location, emitting projectiles outwards while dashing. The stun and projectiles deal 4 damage, and contact with the lunge deals 10 damage.
  • Whip Combo: Tisiphone dashes towards Zagreus in a large arc, then dashes in a random direction in a large arc. After both dashes, she will slash her whip in an area around her. Each hit does 13 damage.
  • Slow Beam: Tisiphone fires a burst of slow shots in all directions around her, dealing 4 damage on impact.
  • Lightning: Tisiphone summons a line of circles toward Zagreus's current position from her own, dealing damage if he is stood in them when they activate. When at or less than 25% max HP, she will begin summoning lines of these circles in each cardinal direction.

Tisiphone, unlike her sisters, does not summon reinforcements to fight with her. She also only has 3 phases, in contrast to the other Furies' 4.

Tisiphone will alter the layout of the battlefield during the fight, closing in the walls around the center of the room after a brief fade to black. She will close in the walls at 50% max HP and 25% max HP. She becomes briefly invulnerable while changing the size of her chamber. Any Bloodstones that would be placed at an inaccessible location during this change are moved to the center of the arena, where they can be picked up to be used again.

Extreme Measures[]

When using Extreme Measures Level 1 from the Pact of Punishment, Tisiphone has a chance to appear as a support sister if Megaera or Alecto is the main sister of the fight. As a support sister, she will use 2 unique attacks, unlike her sisters, to assist the main fury in the fight. As a support sister, she cannot be damaged, and has no effect on the main fury's health.

  • Support Bombing Run: Tisiphone places lengthy rows of damaging circles along a direction of the arena, which detonate after each other in a row. They deal damage if Zagreus stands in one when it detonates.
  • Support Fog: Tisiphone covers parts of the arena with clouds of dark green fog, making it difficult to see enemies or Zagreus in that location for a limited time.

Reward[]

When defeated, the Furies drop a Titan Blood if Bounty conditions are met. This means that either it must be Zagreus' first victory against them with a weapon, or the Target Heat must be met for that weapon.

Otherwise, they will drop 50 Darkness. This Darkness reward is affected by boons and bonuses (Dark Thirst, Poseidon's Oceans Bounty, Chaos's Eclipse, etc.)

Bounties for the Furies are tracked as a whole, and not individually. (This means defeating Megaera at 0 Heat will provide a bounty, but a later defeat of Alecto with the same weapon at 0 Heat will not provide a bounty, as the 0 Heat victory has already been completed with that weapon).

After picking up the reward, the door on the opposite side of the chamber will open, allowing Zagreus access to the Stairway Chamber between Tartarus and Asphodel. In the chamber is a Healing Fountain, a Well of Charon, Pool of Purging, and the Keepsake Display Case (if it has been purchased at the House Contractor).
