Amphibious creatures, by their nature, are of two worlds; she always felt the connection there.

Frinos is a green toad companion and a potential Animal Familiar that settles outside Melinoë's tent in the Crossroads.

Characteristics and Personality[]

Frinos is a light-green toad adorned with a teal, moon-shaped tassel pendant on his back. He has orange lips and yellow eyes with ovoid black pupils. In the crossroads, he can be found sitting on a stone at the respawn location, where Melinoë has the option to "confide" in him, typically about how she last died. In this way, he doubles as an emotional support animal for times when things get too tough for Melinoe to process on her own.

He is very tranquil, as he shows little reaction to being struck by projectiles. According to his codex entry, he enjoys eating any kind of insect that comes near Melinoë's tent.

History[]

Before Hades II[]

Frinos is a regular toad that would one day by chance hop into Melinoë's tent, Melinoë herself quickly growing attached to the amphibian who became one of her closest confidants, close enough with his owner for her to talk about the things that bothered her.

Hades II[]

Frinos is perched on a rock where he tends to witness Melinoë return from her runs, who in turns tends to greet him in multiple ways. Melinoë eventually makes him her official familiar, allowing him to join on her runs.

Affinity[]

After using the Faith of the Familiar Spirits Incantation, Melinoë can offer Frinos a Witch's Delight, allowing him to be used as a familiar. When Frinos is equipped, he leaps randomly about the encounter arena and absorbs projectiles, ostensibly serving as portable cover. He cannot be stunned or take damage, though he is typically knocked back when he takes a hit. Some types of projectiles, most notably wave-shaped ones, can pass through him, however.

He also has the tool function of the Tablet of Peace; he increases the chances of Lost Shades to appear during a run and can turn them directly into Psyche Psyche, skipping the minigame.

Bonds[]

After the initial Witch's Delight used to unlock him as a companion, further offerings can be used to strengthen bonds which make both of you stronger while together.

  • Life Bond: While together, gain an additional +10/20/30/40 Health.
  • Soul Bond: While together, gain a +0/25/50/75% chance to manifest lost souls.
  • Drive Bond: Frinos deals 0/10/20/30 damage leaping onto foes.

Codex Entry[]

''...An amphibious familiar with whom you bonded early on. Content to ensure your meager residence is free of insects.''

Trivia[]
