Infernal watch-dog Cerberus regards the Underworld Prince with mixed emotions, from purest joy to deepest melancholy.
~ Narrator

Cerberus is a massive three-headed dog charged with guarding the gates of the Underworld to prevent the dead from escaping. He is a magnificent beast, companion of Hades and Zagreus.

When Zagreus left the House for the first time, Cerberus threw a tantrum that wrecked the House's lounge area.

Once Zagreus reaches the Temple of Styx, Cerberus guards its exit. Zagreus must find a Satyr Sack, Cerberus's favorite snack, as a bribe to leave the area.

Characteristics and Personality

Cerberus is the guardian of the Underworld and the faithful companion of master Hades. Despite his intimidating reputation, he now serves more as a pet than anything else in the House of Hades.

Cerberus is a gentle, helpful, and playful dog. He has offered his companionship and protection to Zagreus when wore only diapers, swearing him eternal loyalty. Cerberus enjoys typical dog play, such as fetching, which can cause quite a bit of massive destruction. He loves Zagreus so much that he destroyed the lounge when Zagreus attempted to leave the Underworld for the first time.

Hades rewards Cerberus for his faithful work by allowing him to stay at home, but it is Cerberus who rewards Hades after a long day of work. He is reliable and cannot disobey his master's orders, but he can sometimes be persuaded with a simple bone.

Cerberus patrols the shores of the Styx to prevent strangers from entering or residents from leaving. By the way, it is possible to pet Cerberus, and it is also related to unlocking achievements. He can be needy, and when he becomes anxious, he may carelessly destroy the lounge, making it unavailable for immediate use. But overall, he is a great companion.

Physical description

Cerberus is a formidable, three-headed guard dog depicted as a large and imposing creature, towering over many tall characters, including Hades. He possesses bright red fur, and each of his heads features a distinct green nose and a salivating tongue with an orange-to-yellow gradient. This unique coloration may suggest the presence of acid or lava, further emphasizing of docile Cerberus's intimidating nature.

Affinity

If given Nectar, Cerberus gives Zagreus the Old Spiked Collar.

Zagreus can pet him at any time in the House.

Cerberus' affinity gauge maxes out at 9 hearts.

If affinity is maxed out with Cerberus, there will be unique text above his keepsake. this text states: "from Cerberus; you share a ferocious bond" as well as "the hound of hell has entrusted all his loyalty in his master, and his master's son".

Favor

To complete Cerberus' favor, he must be pet at least 20 times. (Pets given before the final favor lock was added to the game are not counted, so fortunately you must pet him another 20 times)

Petting him 10 times earns the Three-Headed Boy achievement, which is an indicator that you're at least halfway there.

Codex entry

Codex
'...The fearsome multi-headed hound of hell is really not so bad as his deserved reputation otherwise would lead you to believe. Yes, the massive beast has feasted on no short supply of interlopers to the Underworld, or on those attempting to escape. However, tales of the number of his heads are oft exaggerated, and in his old age, his temperament has grown much more relaxed. Indeed, he seems one of the sole sources of comfort for the House's grim Master. The fact that Cerberus now frequently rests at his Master's side also suggests the Underworld has new vulnerabilities, a source of some concern to the Lord Hades, who understandably takes pride in his domain's imposing reputation.'
