The City of Ephyra is a surface region, capital of Thesprotia that worshiped Hades and Persephone. The City was attacked by the armies of Chronos and most of the inhabitants were killed. The City of Ephyra is the first surface region Melinoë must fight through to reach Mount Olympus.
The following region is the Rift of Thessaly.
Book of Shadows Entry[]
You cannot survive up there, anyhow, born as you were in the Underworld. Unless, of course, your theoretical incantation that would unbind a chthonic fate is manifest into reality.'
Description, Society and Culture[]
- The City of Ephyra is the first Surface region, located in Thesprotia. It was once a thriving city that worshipped Hades and Persephone, but it was attacked by Chronos' armies, leaving most of its inhabitants dead. Melinoë must fight through Ephyra to reach Mount Olympus, making it a crucial battleground.
- Ephyra was a hub of devotion to the gods of the Underworld, particularly Hades and Persephone. However, after Chronos' invasion, it became a ruined city, filled with trapped Shades and hostile forces. The remnants of its society are now enslaved souls, bound to Soul Pylons that Melinoë must destroy to weaken the barriers blocking her path.
- The culture of Ephyra reflects its tragic fall. Once a place of rituals and worship, it is now a battlefield where Melinoë must undo the Fates' curse to survive. The city's architecture and layouts still hint at its former grandeur, with a central fountain that restores HP and hidden chambers containing valuable resources.
Layout[]

Full view of Ephyra.
Rather than being a gauntlet of rooms with optional diverging paths, The City of Ephyra is instead a central hub with many rooms to chose from. At the center lies a fountain that will restore HP once, and an exit guarded by a barrier kept by six Pylons powered by Shades trapped within the several "rooms" of Ephyra.
Around the fountain several doorways are available, inside there will be a single room with a Pylon corresponding to the ones guarding the exit for Melinoë to break and free the shades, further weakening the barrier. Some rooms will offer extra, optional rooms to get more resources.

The bonus rooms in a chamber.
Once all Pylons protecting the exit are broken, any unvisited path will be permanently closed. Past the exit lies one of Charon's shops and the path to the boss fight with Polyphemus.
All-Seeing Bats[]
Through the Cauldron, Melinoë can unlock cages with bats spread across Ephyra to give her a "bird's eye" view of the city, marking all the rooms she can enter and what rewards they offer.

Trivia[]
- A lot of cities in Ancient Greece were named Ephyra, making it hard to properly know which one does the game happen in. Possible locations are:
- Cichyrus, a city where the Necromanteion, Oracle of the Dead, was located, as well where it's said Pirithous and Theseus went to kidnap Persephone from Hades, as the city had a shrine in their honor. It was located where the rivers Acheron and Cocytus meet.
- Corinth, the city Sisyphus ruled and where Jason abandoned Medea. It was also where one of the entrances to the Underworld was located.
- Cranon, a polis located in Ancient Thessaly.
