~ Melinoƫ |
Charybdis is a legendary sea monster that plagues the seas. Odysseus and his crew encountered Charybdis on his way back home and managed to escape her.
Charybdis appears in Hades II as a Warden encounter of the Rift of Thessaly.
Combat[]
Charybdis is a semi-Guardian encounter, having a large health bar with a nameplate along the top of the screen instead of being a unique Elite enemy.
An important thing to take into account is that Charybdis's main body cannot be attacked. Instead, her tentacles must be damage so that Charybdis loses health. Also, the tentacles are independent creatures killing one won't kill the others. Her attacks are as follow:
- Tentacle Slam: The tentacle slams the ground creating small shockwaves in its front and sides.
- Bombs: Charybdis spews from her mouth large bombs that will track Melinoƫ. These bombs have a timer and when they explode either by its timer running out or by hitting Melinoƫ, will split into multiple smaller bombs.
- Small Bombs: These behave the same as the larger bombs but will not split upon detonation.
- Bone Harpoon: The tentacle charges up and shoots its bone at Melinoƫ.
- Tentacle Spin: The tentacle spins in a small radius dealing damage if Melinoƫ is within melee range.
Vow of Shadow: If the Vow of Shadow is active, then Charybdis' Tentacles will be accompanied by 3 shadow versions of Anchors. These copies are Elite enemies with armor.
Book of Shadows Entry[]
'Amongst the very worst ways that mortals sailors may meet their demise, this is one.
To plunge headlong towards such a thing is clearly ill-advised. But, wherever it resides, other dangers always abound, making the choice of how best to perish difficult. Incidentally, the suspicion that the thing was rooted to a certain place proved false.'

Trivia[]
- In Greek Mythology, Charybdis is the daughter of Poseidon and Gaia, however this was most likely changed to avoid incest since Poseidon is Gaia's grandson.
- It is possible however that Poseidon created Charybdis alone and did not conceive her with a partner, since Charybdis' appearance is monstrous and does not resemble the humanoid appearance of the gods.
- Charybdis had been mentioned once in Hades, during Skelly's prank about his past. It was given as his and his crew's cause of death.
