Bouldy is Sisyphus' boulder and constant companion. As his punishment for cheating death, Sisyphus is forced to push Bouldy up a hill constantly, only to have him roll back to the bottom, repeating this process for eternity. Over time, however, Bouldy has become something of a confidante for Sisyphus rather than merely a source of unending torment.

Bouldy returns in Hades II, having been left to keep Hades company by Sisyphus.

Characteristics and Personality[ | ]

Bouldy does not seem to like talking very much, but Sisyphus considers him a good friend and confidant.

Although Bouldy is claimed to be a living being, he is never heard or seen moving on screen, but Sisyphus seems to be able to understand what he is saying; however, this is likely just Sisyphus's imagination.

It is massively questioned whether Bouldy really is alive or not. If Zagreus offers Bouldy Nectar, Bouldy will apparently happily accept the gift and somehow gives Zagreus the Heart of Stone boon implying that he does seem to possess some form of sentience. Furthermore, Melinoë mentions feeling some sort of energy coming from him.

Physical description[ | ]

Bouldy is a large, spherical, moss-green anthropomorphic stone with a happy expression, chained to its companion, Sisyphus, with metal links. Bouldy's facial features are quite stony.

In Hades II, Bouldy is now covered in moss in some areas. The moss forms a sort of hairline, beard and eyebrows on Bouldy.

History[ | ]

Hades[ | ]

As Zagreus goes on his escape attempts, Bouldy is seen with Sisyphus in Tartarus. He isn't up for talk at first, but after some encouragement from his companion, the prince will finally start talking with him and build a friendship. From then on, Bouldy is willing to lend a little help to Zagreus at the price of one Nectar.

Epilogue[ | ]

Once Sisyphus's contract is revised and he's no longer bound to his previous torment, he still decides to stay in Tartarus, mostly to stay with Bouldy, among other reasons.

Before Hades II[ | ]

Hades was sent to Sisyphus' chamber after Chronos took control of the Underworld. Before he left, Sisyphus told Bouldy to keep Hades company until more arrived.

Hades II[ | ]

Bouldy is still in his old chamber along with Hades but cannot be interacted until the chamber is reached without Cerberus in it.

Ambrosia[ | ]

Although Bouldy cannot be gifted Ambrosia, he can be gifted Nectar once per escape attempt. However, he lacks an Affinity level.

Codex Entry[ | ]

Bouldy does not have a Codex entry.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Bouldy appears to have been inspired by Wilson from the movie "Cast Away."
  • Even before Bouldy becomes an interactable character, you can see dizzy and other effects applied on him through the use of festive fog.
